Delhi: Namgyal Kyitsal – Defence Colony

Namgyal Kyitsal is a part of Namgyal Tantric College, which is more commonly known as Namgyal Monastery, registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI 1860. The house is blessed and named by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in 2000.

It is located at Defence Colony in New Delhi, close to Defence Colony market and a walking distance from the Tibetan Bureau office at Lajpat Nagar.

The monastery’s residential house in Delhi was legally purchased by the monastery for the sole purpose of providing a residential house for the monks of the monastery while visiting Delhi for medical and official purposes.

As the personal monastery of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the monks of the monastery have a special responsibility to provide assistance in major religious activities of His Holiness, and need to frequently travel as part of his entourage. In the past the monks faced many difficulties while travelling to Delhi, especially in the case of some of our senior monks, when going for medical treatment. Besides, the monastery invites its official guest and sponsors from outside to stay at our residential house, while they are in Delhi. It is now legally registered under the ownership of Namgyal Tantric College, based at Dharamshala, near the residence of His Holiness. The present administrator of the house is Ven Tenzin Dawa la, one of the senior monks of the monastery.
